How tight is too tight, how long to keep it, and what to do the week it comes down.
Tension is the whole question
If the hairline pulls, the eyebrows lift, or there are small bumps along the parts, it's too tight — regardless of how neat it looks.
A style that lasts three weeks but costs edges isn't a saving.

Two to four weeks is a reasonable window for little ones. Take it down sooner if it's fuzzing and pulling.
Take-down week
Take down on conditioned hair, section by section, and give it a full wash day with a deep condition before the next style goes in.
Let the hair rest loose for a few days if you can.
