Detangling without the tears

Most wash-day battles are a sequencing problem, not a patience problem.

The order that changes everything

Detangle before water, on conditioned hair, in sections, from the ends upward. Every part of that sentence matters.

  1. 01Split dry hair into four sections and clip them.
  2. 02Saturate one section with conditioner until it feels slippery.
  3. 03Finger-detangle first, then a wide-tooth comb, starting at the ends.
  4. 04Braid or twist the finished section before moving on.
  5. 05Only then take the whole head to water.

Make it survivable for both of you

Sit them lower than you, put on something they love, and agree in advance on how many sections you'll do today.

Two shorter evenings beats one long fight. Nobody is grading you on finishing in one sitting.
