Your hair after baby

Shedding, new density, a different curl pattern. What's common, and how to handle hair that feels like someone else's.

What a lot of mothers notice

Shedding that shows up months after birth, thinner-feeling edges, and a curl pattern that behaves differently than it used to.

It's an extremely common season and it usually settles on its own timeline — which is rarely the timeline you'd choose.

How we'd handle it

Less manipulation, more consistency. This is a season for gentler handling rather than new experiments.

  1. 01Detangle only on conditioned, slippery hair, from the ends upward.
  2. 02Loosen the styles: no tight ponytails, no tension at the hairline.
  3. 03Oil the scalp once or twice a week and massage a full minute.
  4. 04Cover at night in satin — this alone reduces a lot of daily breakage.
  5. 05Keep the same wash day each week rather than chasing a new routine.

Be patient with the mirror

Hair changes lag behind everything else by months. Judging progress week to week will only make this season harder than it needs to be.
